A Travel Guide for Kaziranga National Park

Traveling to Assam becomes only complete if you visit Kaziranga national park, the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Still, numerous travelers complete the journey without paying a visit to this biodiversity hotspot of Assam. If you are planning to visit the state in the upcoming holidays, check the following guidelines beforehand. With the help of these guidelines, traveling to Kaziranga will be easier for you.

When To Visit

If you are considering to include Kaziranga national park in your Assam tour packages, keep in mind that the park does not stay open all through the year. During the rainy season, Kaziranga National Forest stays closed to the travelers. That means, if you are planning to visit Assam, between June to April, you will not be able to visit the national park to see the wildlife.

The rainy season is the mating time for the animals. Apart from that, during this period, the mighty Brahmaputra, that flows by the side of the national park often floods its banks and the national park as well. November to April is the best time for you to have the northeast India trip.

What To Pack and Wear

If you decide to visit Kaziranga National Park, don’t forget to pack your bags accordingly. Keep the tropical climate of the state while packing your bags for the journey. To explore Kaziranga, you should try to wear layers of clothes. This is especially necessary if you want to take the early morning elephant ride. As time passes, the temperature of the land will rise, and you will require to shed the layers one by one as and when required.

Keeping a cap or a hat handy is a wise decision. If you are all about traveling through the day, then you should carry sunscreen lotions to avoid the brunt of the Indian Sun. Carry insect repellent as well. There’s no dearth of marshland and mosquitoes and other biting insects as well.

How to Reach

Kaziranga national park is situated between Jorhat and Tezpur. Therefore, you can access the park with the help of a car from both the cities. Travelers who only want to see the national park can fly to Jorhat directly. You can travel by train to Kaziranga as well. The nearest station to this place is known as Furketing.

Kaziranga is heaven for nature and animal lovers. All the inconveniences you might face during the travel will get paled once you see the gorgeous wildlife in their habitat. Talk to the locals and the guides to find the neighboring accommodations and attractions as well.
